About Our Club

Continental Four Wheel Drive Association (CFWDA) is highly involved in pre-running and mapping trails for the Divide Ride each year and two of our members were trail guides in 2007.

We are stewards of our environment, we believe in the responsible use of our trails, having family fun, and enjoy the camaraderie of our shared interests in four wheeling. We are members of UFWDA and M4X4A.

We go on trail rides that are rated from novice to expert. We have camp outs, Christmas Tree runs, Christmas parties, Fourth of July barbeques, and parades. We like to play in the snow as well as the sun. Come on, get out there, enjoy your life, your family, your rig, and the great outdoors.

The original Continental 4 Wheelers was started back in the sixties by some local Butte boys. Hill climb racing in the 70's was one of the main focal points at that time. The club was disbanded I believe in the late seventies. We used the Continental name out of respect for the original Butte club and came up with Continental Four Wheel Drive Association.

A Jeep club was originally discussed by Don Apker and Chad Schaeffer in March of 2005. Don started discussing it with some of the original members of the old club. Chad talked to every jeep enthusiast he met. Everyone seemed to think it was a good idea to have a club in Butte again. Don Apker posted a sign up sheet at Pete Halquist off road repair shop and people interested in being in the club signed up. In December of 2005 Shawn Norton, Nicole Rowton, and Chad Schaeffer had a get together at their house to get things started.

Shawn got the Chamber of Commerce to hold our first meeting in January 2006. Don Apker formed the club By laws. The next meeting was held at Legion Oasis Community Hall. Thanks to all the paper work performed by Al and Deb Smith the club was officially formed. The club was not in anyway started by one person it took all of us, many hours, and long discussions. A special thanks to everyone of our members for making this dream a reality.
